Summer is coming: 4 things to look forward to this Summer!

So, the festive season is a distant memory, the New Years celebrations are well and truly over, the sales have been and gone, you’re thinking about Spring cleaning, restyling your home, treating yourself to some contemporary furniture (see danetti.com for some inspiration!) but never mind all that, it’s time to look ahead and focus on what’s important and what we have to look forward to! In this case: summer!

Ok, ok – Summer may be a few months away yet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be excited about it! Summer is quite possibly the best time of the year, particularly if you have children! Here you’ll get the lowdown on what we’re looking forward to the most this Summer, and no – it’s not the kids going back to school!

The weather

Do you remember when we were able to just head outside without a coat or a scarf to keep warm? I don’t either! But in the summer time, the weather plays a huge part in lifting our moods and making our days fun. Although in the UK, our summer days don’t really peak until August, there’s nothing wrong with breaking out those flip-flops, t-shirts and maxi dresses!

This amazing weather means long summer nights too, meaning the days are longer – so everyone gets to enjoy themselves a little more too!

Days at the beach

Forget sand sandwiches and melting ice cream, days at the beach is what summer is all about! The trick here, is to be prepared! It’s not unusual to see families – like mine – laden down with cool boxes, a beach umbrella, towels, a wind breaker, buckets and spades, baby wipes, sun cream, money for ice cream and donkey rides and maybe even the kitchen sink! Just make sure you check the tide tables!

BBQs

A BBQ is a great excuse for getting everyone together, friends, family even neighbours! All those burgers and sausages cooking away – sometimes just the smell of the burning charcoal is enough to make passers-by salivate! We love making a night of it; string up some fairy lights around the garden, maybe have a few games for the kids to enjoy and a glass of something nice and cool to enjoy while the guys hang around the BBQ. Don’t forget to break out that paddling pool!

Holidays

It almost seems silly that we plan to go away when the hottest days of the year hit the UK! But jetting off on a summer holiday for a week or so is what we tend to live for! Whether you’re heading somewhere exotic and you’re hoping to tick it off your bucket list, or you and the kids are heading to a holiday park either in the UK or in Europe – there’s nothing more exciting then getting ready to head off on holiday.

Weeks of planning, choosing a hotel, and not forgetting that all important holiday shop! You can never have too much swimwear, right?
