BritMums #EcoverLaundry Challenge

This post is an entry for BritMums #EcoverLaundry Challenge, sponsored by Ecover.

I have said before in posts that Matthew is quite a traditionalist. He has a good job and I work part-time- look after Erin and do the housework. I am not going to lie housework is pretty rubbish. At least it is only once a week that I have to put my all into it.

Laundry is a whole other kettle of fish, that’s an ongoing hellish stream of clothes that never seem to disappear. Matt and Erin are serial clothes wearers! they get changed about 3 times a day and Matt wears the dreaded shirts to work- Yep Ironing that never-ending pile of shirts isn’t fun. Especially when Matt gets things like highlighter and pen on his shirts and my washing powder doesn’t come up to scratch in stain removing.

I have been lucky enough to be gifted a bottle of Ecover’s new Non-Bio concentrated laundry detergent. On first impressions, the bottle is nice and compact and appealing to the eye. When I spotted the fact the scent was lavender and sandalwood, I couldn’t help but smell it. My nose went into overdrive and it was amazing!! I love the smell, it was very fresh and the thought of my bed clothes being washed in this excited me. Yep- something to make me excited about laundry- unheard of in our house.

Ecover has been pioneering a greener clean since 1979. The new Non-Bio formula has announced itself as tougher on stains but just as kind on sensitive skin (this is good more me as Matt reacts to things easily and Erin has a bit of eczema.) One of the things that impressed me is that it is Mumsnet rated, with 89% of Mumsnet raters saying they would recommend it to a friend.

Normally I do around 3-4 loads of washing a week. When looking for a detergent I always try and use Non-Bio. Ecover is not only Non-Bio but is also dermatologically tested and plant-based, which sounds great. I also try not to wash clothes much higher than 30′ so something that will wash at that temperature is a bonus. Perfect for Ecover as this is another of their promises.

The first trial of Ecover- It’s Friday night and Matt and Erin look like they have been in a war with their clothes. Matts stinky running clothes and Erin’s spaghetti stained pinafores from school. The amount of the detergent is ok, I don’t feel like I am scrimping as with other brands. The smell is divine! I’m just hoping that it works getting the stains out at 30′!

Erin even wanted to help me use it!

Well!!!! Stains are removed… Matts running shorts don’t smell like a PE hall full of boys anymore and everything seems fresh and clean. Bonus. So far so good. The question is if it stands the test of the tumble dryer. I have found that some detergents loose their scent once they have been through it.

Again it still smells lush! I am becoming sold on this product. In fact, I would recommend this in a heartbeat. The fact that it hasn’t lost scent in the tumble dryer is a huge selling point for me. Normally this is the deal breaker as I use the tumble dryer in winter, due to our vile weather.  I can’t wait to get into my fresh clean bedding this evening. That moment when you get snuggled down into fresh sheets and take a deep breath is my favourite and most rewarding part of doing all the washing and Ironing.

After a week of using this product, Erin, Matt & I are all loving the Ecover detergent. Matt and Erin’s skin are great and it hasn’t harmed it. The smell is still on my clothes and bedding even after sleeping in it and hanging them in the wardrobe. I would give Ecover 10 out of 10 and have already told loads of people about how much I love it. Thanks, Ecover- you have won us over.
