Is there any point in a birth plan?

Seven years ago when I was pregnant with Erin I meticulously wrote a birth plan and thought that when I got to hospital they would ask me for it and everything would be followed word for word.

How wrong was I! My birth plan didn’t even get read. It wasn’t asked for, it wasn’t looked at, it was pointless. A waste of time.

This time I haven’t yet written one. I am 38 weeks pregnant today and I honestly don’t know if I’m going to bother. Has anyone ever had theirs read?! Did it help you when in labour?

I have specific ideas about what I want to do but I’m also open to change, I genuinely don’t know what to do for the best. Should I write it just in case the hospital ask for it? Will I regret it if I don’t?

The Hypnobirthing course that we may or may not have finished yet (yep don’t get me started!!!) has a sample birth plan which covers everything, really I should just fill this in just case. And also finish the bloody course!!! God help me if I go into labour tonight-Ha!!!

If you know any insights to this topic- should I give it to the midwife without being asked? Was I too young and naive to force my hand last time? Or do they just not care? If you have any experience I would love to hear it.
