#Brightfuture Britmums Challenge with Unilever

Keeping your family safe and sound is a top priority for me and so many others out there. So when we were asked to take part in the Unilever #brightfuture challenge with Britmums, we jumped at the chance, so this post is an entry for BritMums #brightFuture Challenge, sponsored by Unilever http://www.brightfuture.unilever.com.

The world is one of those places that blows our minds every day and there are so many good things but far too much bad. We all take different actions to make the world a better place from recycling to helping out others. Unilever’s goal is to unite communities and encourage children to have a positive impact on the world. Just showing your children how to keep themselves and the rest of their families’ safe and teaching them to grow in the world is all part of our role. We have been sent a few products to help us along the way, to assist me in showing Erin how she can help.

The products that we were sent include Domestos, Dove body wash and body lotion, Persil Non Bio small and mighty.

Dove are currently running their Self- esteem project which ensures that feeling good can start with simple items such as body wash and body lotion. As your skin is the biggest organ on the body it is key to look after it. Making washing fun for children ensures they are hygienic and don’t get smelly, especially when they are first hitting puberty and all sorts of hormones are rushing around their bodies. Erin and I managed to have a competition to see how many bubbles we could make with the body wash and took it in turns to put body lotion on each other’s back where we couldn’t reach.

To protect my family and keep them safe I am always trying to ensure the house is clean, I used to the Domestos to ensure that bacteria was killed after we all had a horrible cold by mixing a little bit with water and cleaning things like door handles, bathrooms, skirting boards to ensure we don’t get ill again, Erin put on some gloves and was allowed to dry the items with a dry cloth for me afterwards and taught her how important sanitation and hygiene was.

Ensuring that kids don’t sit in front of the TV all day and stay in the house, it is so important to let your kids know it’s OK to get dirty! Kids are told not to ruin their clothes or get dirty more often than not now due to fashions and time for parents but with using our Persil it was quick and easy to get Erin’s clothes clean after she has rolled around the playhouse floor or slid down the slide into mud, it’s so much more fun occasionally to just let them be kids.

Other things we have done to assist in helping to make a #bright future we are teaching Erin to recycle and the importance that this has on the world and trying to do more natural forms of play to reduce the amount of plastics and shop brought items that we use for example, leaf painting with yogurt and food colourings as paint with spices in to make more of a sensory experience!

Here are some interesting facts that back up the #brightfuture challenge with Uniliver:

  • Six out of ten parents saying that they have started to live in a ‘greener’ way at home at the suggestion of their children.
  • 83% of children continue to feel optimistic about their own future and 59% feel optimistic about the future of the environment.
  • Most parents (between 70-80%) believe that, compared with themselves, their children will live longer, have a better education and better job prospects, and will enjoy life more, even if they will have to work harder to reap the rewards of the greater benefits ahead.

If everyone does their own smaller things to ensure the future of the world we can make the world a better place and all have a #brightfuture
