Bake off Meets Naked Chef!

This morning was one of those days that with a two year old every mum dreads….rainy days. You can’t chuck them outside and let them run riot, you can’t walk to the park and play make believe shops… the question is what do you do on days like this bleak Tuesday?!

With all the hype about the great British bake off we decided to bake! My good friend Lilly brought Erin a lovely baking set for her birthday from Laura Ashley. The set included shape cutters, a rolling pin and whisk in lovely whimsical colours. All of the items are made from different materials (wood, silicone and metal) creating a really sensory experience. They are a fab size for little fingers too!
We decided to make Shortbread… a first for me- I have only ever baked with my Nan. After seeking counsel from the girls I had found a recipe. We were on our way to the supermarket (the first challenge of the day).
The shortbread were easy to make and with only three ingredients. Not to expensive if it all went wrong, perfect for first timers. Erin loved getting messy and rolling and cutting out the shapes…she decided to assume the roll of naked chef, cooking in just her nappy.. I’m fine with this, as it saves on the washing 🙂

When we had finished the taste test was finally upon us They were great. I will be taking the remainders for my colleagues at work to cheer us up after being made redundant. The day was a great success- especially when you have snacks and a great tools to work with. This was a great idea as I have a happy two year old who stayed engaged throughout the experience through shop, prep, make, cook and tidy… a great idea for a rainy day!
